Happy Spring!

Spring has finally arrived, and the snow has begun to melt! Swim lessons are finally over, and last week baseball season has begun! Jake is playing on a minor league team, and Emily has started T-ball. Josh is staying busy with 4-H and taking care of his flock of chickens.

Going Green one poo at a time

I just purchased my very first brand new cloth diapers. They are lovely and I am super excited. The antibiotics Emily are on are throwing her system for quite a loop, and as a result she has quite the diaper rash. Her poor lil bottom is fire engine red, and when we tried to put a new disposable diaper on she screamed her poor lil head off. So I improvised and put a cloth diaper on her (we use them as spit rags, so I have plenty on hand). But I didn't have a proper cover, so I was using the diaper covers from her dresses to hold it on, but that in no way holds in leaks. Then I remembered our friends used g diapers (http://www.gdiapers.com/) with their daughter so I shot them an email asking them if we could borrow their covers for awhile that she had outgrown.

After doing some quick searching on ebay I found a box of 200 liners for half the price! I figured what better way to test them out, right? Well... I have issues with poop. Roll your eyes if you must, but poop and puke are things that I can not do. I can change a poopy diaper, but it is not one of my favorite things especially once the kiddo starts on solids. This is the main reason I have avoided cloth like the plague. I can totally handle rolling it all up and throwing it away... I know bad, but seriously I would never see myself dumping it when I can wrap it and toss it ASAP. BUT I have this urge to save the environment and after reading how freaking long it a regular diaper really stays in our earth, that is a sad sad number. The really cool part is that the liners are flushable, or you can toss them in the trash and they are biodegradable. The diapers are a bit expensive to get started $19 for the covers, oi (there are some super cute ones, hint if you need a gift idea for emily shes a size medium lol) and the liners are $52 for a package of $128. But thanks to the sellers on ebay I was able to score some for $30 which is cheaper than our pampers at walmart. I just have too keep reminding myself that I am doing this to save money, NOT to spend more! LOL Lets just hope that I can keep that in mind every time I have some extra money to splurge with!
