Happy Spring!

Spring has finally arrived, and the snow has begun to melt! Swim lessons are finally over, and last week baseball season has begun! Jake is playing on a minor league team, and Emily has started T-ball. Josh is staying busy with 4-H and taking care of his flock of chickens.

Homeschooling

We are seriously considering going the homeschool route for Josh next year. His school had some major budget cuts and eliminated his teacher's position for next year. This would mean that the kids in grades K-8 would all be in one room with one teacher and an aide. This age gap didn't make us too comfortable about the situation. Our other school option would be the public school in town. After reviewing their curriculum for next year, it would be a major step back for Josh. They focus on the numbers 1-20 (he can count to 100+) letter identification (the kid can already read!) and shapes and colors - (uhhh he learned that when he was 2!). That on top of the fact that the classes are huge and there are 6 yes 6 kindergartens! oi - There is a catholic school in town but the building is dirty and I haven't heard many good comments about the school. The only other choice is the baptist school where Josh's friend sophie goes but their enrollment is full for next year already.
I talked with 2 other moms from his class and they are going the homeschool route as well. I think if we do that route as well it would be good because then we would be able to network do some lessons together, and have each other for support.
So that's where we are with that at the moment. The homeschool materials are $750 for the year, and that includes everything workbooks, teacher books etc. Definetly cheaper than tuition. So we still have a bit of time to do some more research.

Well you forgot to mention you are a teacher! I think it's a fan-freaking-tastic idea!

Sounds like a great idea! If I thought I could actually do it I would too. But it's a struggle to get Joe to do his homework let alone anything else with me. Such a turd!

I would totally go the home school route! I don't know how I would feel about such an age span all in the same class room. He would definatly benefit from being home schooled and put on a curriculum that is best for him and his current education.
